“When you change the way you look at things; the things you look at change.” – Wayne W. Dyer
In a nutshell…. If your always viewing life from a negative perspective, you will see all the things that are wrong in the world. Whereas if you look for the positive, you are more likely to find it.
Take COVID-19 (Something we cannot escape at the moment). We can choose to look at the situation for all things negative (and do not get me wrong I am not dismissing it) or we can look at it from a positive light; more family time, an opportunity to fix up the house, no alarm clocks etc.
This is just one example, however, we can apply it to several areas in life. Having a more positive outlook will allow you to feel better about a given situation. With any situation, you might not be able to change what you have, but you change how you feel towards something, which can therefore positively enhance your view towards it.
Having this attitude can help us see life from a brighter perspective. Whereas, constantly seeing the world as dark and glum and miserable is going to fuel those negative emotions.
I once read something that said, “you can find a million reasons to hate life and be angry at the world. Or, if you want to, you could find a million reasons to love life and be happy. Choose wisely”
Albert Einstein even suggested that ‘the most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.’
I know this is easier said than done but it does bare truth. Which perspective do you wish to view the world from?
I try to be as real as I can when I write and I have to stress this doesn’t mean I am never negative towards situations. I have been on plenty of occasions during this COVID-19. However, by understanding that we can change our viewpoint and realising we can find reasons to find joy, it can help give us a more positive stance with life.
In 12 rules for life by Jordan Peterson he insists we must make the best out of even the smallest of joys that life offers, by doing so you will embrace life more and appreciate all the good things that come your way. It will also help you through the tough times, even when they are prolonged.
Therefore, despite the current crisis, although it may feel prolonged, find the small bits of joy and it will make it a little bit easier.
Look at the reasons to be happy and it will allow you to feel a little bit better about current circumstances.
In the words of Monty Python ….. “Always look on the bright side of life”
